Tequila, DJ Mustard and getting locked out of your studio at SXSW.
While I don't 100% wish I was in Austin right now, I found myself digging though work I've done at SXSWs in years past. I came across a portrait I shot of DJ Mustard and remembered it was a near miss: I had let the crew go for the day and we were all sitting somewhere on E. 6th on our 2nd(?) 3rd(?) round of margaritas when I got a text that DJ Mustard (who had cancelled earlier in the day) was now available on on his way to the studio. I told the DP and sound guy that I could handle it myself, left them with my credit card, and with the PA in tow ran back to the studio. The gate to the lot had been closed and locked for the night, and I didn't have the clicker. Tequilad and fearless, I clumsily scaled what I remember being pretty tall fence, ripping my pants and bruising my nether regions on the way over. We got the studio ready and the gate open just in time for Mustard and his entourage. I think maybe the PA did 2nd cam and sound and I interviewed him and ran cam A, though, tbh my memory is blurry. Thrilled to discover this portrait isn't. Interview below.
